Muthoot Institute of Technology and Science (MITS) Puthencruz was established in May 2013. The Department of Artificial Intelligence & Data Science was formed by the bifurcation of the parent Computer Science department. A team of dedicated & well qualified faculty members having expertise in diversified areas of AI & DS under the headship of Dr. Cerene Mariam Abraham is running the department. The department offers two graduate programs and one post graduate program.
Department currently offers following courses :
1. B.Tech in CSE(Artificial Intelligence) ( 120 Seats )
2.B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science ( 60 Seats )
3. M.Tech Artificial Intelligence & Data Science ( 12 Seats )
B.Tech in CSE(Artificial Intelligence) and M.Tech Artificial Intelligence & Data Science were started in 2020 while B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science in the year 2021. The courses offered in this department aim at helping students to acquire all the basic and advanced level skills & knowledge that are crucial in the field of Data Science, AI , Machine learning and Deep learning. In addition to academics, the department conducts several extra-curricular and co-curricular activities that aims at the holistic development of the students.
The Department of Artificial Intelligence & Data Science (AI & DS), the newest in the MITS family, is dedicated to nurturing highly skilled professionals in the thriving fields of AI and Data Science. AI empowers machines to perform intelligent tasks such as decision-making, problem-solving, perception, language processing, and image recognition, exemplified by technologies like Amazon’s Alexa and social robots like Sophia. In parallel, Data Science is an interdisciplinary domain that brings together computer science, statistics, mathematics, information science, and data visualization to extract meaningful insights from large datasets, applicable in diverse areas including healthcare, climate modeling, business, and entertainment. Supported by committed and well-qualified faculty specializing in areas like Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Data Analytics, the department thrives with its robust infrastructure—featuring high-end computing facilities, well-equipped labs, high-speed internet, smart classrooms, and comprehensive digital library access—which collectively bolster students' productivity and readiness for future-ready careers.

Department of Artificial Intelligence & Data Science at MITS fosters professionalism among students through active involvement in student chapters of professional bodies. A variety of activities, including technical events, expert discussions, and social awareness programs, are regularly organized to cultivate leadership, technical competence, and a sense of societal responsibility.
The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at Muthoot Institute of Technology and Science (MITS Kochi) successfully hosted the Pre-Summit Event of India AI Impact Summit 2026 on 4th February 2026.
Organized under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, MoE's Innovation Cell, and Institution's Innovation Council, the event focused on the theme:
The summit served as an engaging platform for students, researchers, academicians, and industry professionals to explore how Artificial Intelligence can drive economic growth while creating meaningful social impact.

Summer Workshop in Mathematics – Mathematical Foundations for AI and Data Science brought together faculty members, research scholars, and postgraduate students for an engaging week of learning at MITS Kochi. Organized jointly by the Department of Basic Science & Humanities and the Department of Artificial Intelligence & Data Science, the workshop focused on the essential mathematical concepts behind AI, Machine Learning, and Data Science. We are proud to announce that Ms. Divya K S, from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, has been recognized as an NPTEL Discipline Star for the January–April 2026 session.
This prestigious recognition is awarded to learners who demonstrate consistent excellence by successfully completing multiple NPTEL courses within the same discipline, accumulating more than 50 weeks of learning, and securing a final score of 55 or above in each course.
