MITS Arts Club

Varnam and Shreshta, the arts and technical fests of our college, began with a logo launch at the M. George block on 3rd March 2023. Varnam ran from 21–30 March. Offstage events like Face Art, Essay Writing, Recitation were held 21–28 March. The inaugural on 29th featured playback singer Ms. Amrutha Suresh as chief guest, along with the launch of the MITS thrift store ‘Preloved Alley’. Onstage events—Movie Spoof, Nostalgia, Group Dance—took place on 30th, concluding with Green House winning the overall trophy. Shreshta, the technical fest, followed from 31st March–1st April. It included Metaverse Expo, Mystery Mayhem, Transcendus, Creatrix, and inter-college cultural events like Mime, Spoof, Duet Song. Students from many colleges participated. The fest ended on 1st April with a Masala Coffee performance and DJ night by Julia Bliss.

Muthoot Institute of Technology and Science conducted Varnam 2022 on 13–14 May, organized by the Students’ Committee, Media Club, Houses, and College Management to promote healthy competition and unity. Planning was handled by the Students’ Committee and Media Club, verified by Mr. Anand Rajagopal (Media Club in-charge) and sanctioned by the Principal. Events were split into offstage (10–12 May) and onstage (13–14 May). Offstage events saw strong competition among houses, with participation encouraged over winning. Onstage began with a performance by the chief guest, followed by the inauguration by violinist and playback singer Roopa Revathi. Day 1 ended with the college band, while Day 2 featured highlight events like group dance and theme show. Green House won the trophy, followed by Blue House. The fest ended with a memorable fusion DJ by BROHOUSE, marking the success of Varnam 2022.

Varnam’21 – Annual Arts Fest of MITS was held virtually on 7–8 May 2021 with great fanfare and 600+ students across 43 events. The grand logo launch took place on 27 April in the presence of Principal Dr. Neelakantan PC, Vice Principal Dr. Chikku Abraham, alumni, faculty, and students. Offstage events began on 3 May with essay writing, story writing, poetry, cartooning, pencil drawing, clay modeling, photography, classical music, etc. The onstage events opened with an inaugural on Zoom attended by the MITS family, with Chief Guest Mr. Ayraan, playback singer. The program included a prayer song, felicitations, Ranga Pooja by Anu & Amala Abraham, and a performance by Ayraan. Day 1 featured debate, MAD ADs, and Mock Press. Day 2 began with Western Vocals and included Mimicry, Monoact, Theme Show, Nadan Pattu, Group Dance, Adaptune, etc. Breaks were filled with fun games by Emalda & Riya Fily, with students sharing memories. An Internet Scavenger Hunt also saw enthusiastic participation.

Varnam 2k19-the annual arts day of MITS is scheduled on 15th and 16th of February 2019. Varnam is a confluence of art, music, dance, literature and culture. With active participation of students and faculty alike, it is definitely the most awaited time of the year. A wide spectrum of events like Thiruvathira, Margamkali, Tic-Tok contest, face art etc witness fierce competition from all 4 houses. The 2-day event will be inaugurated by famous violinist Sabareesh Prabhakar and the valedictory function will be graced by the presence of noted playback singer Jyotsna.

On the 7th of November, all the roads led to the basketball court of our College for the cultural’s inauguration for the year 2018-19. The excitement among the students was palpable. The cultural committee of MITS was successful in bringing up a programme that maintained the decorum in all aspects. College Executive Director, Mr. P George Varghese was the Chief Guest for the event. Dr.Chikku Abraham, the acting principal and Dr. Babu Kurian, College Dean and the HoD’s of various departments were present among the dignitaries.

College day celebrations of MITS 2018 was conducted on 23rd March 2018 at 4 pm in the basketball court. All staff and students were present in the programme. The annual report was presented by Principal Dr. S Ramkumar followed by prize distribution of sports, arts and tech fest. An amazing performance by college music band and dance club was a delight to all present at the event. These events followed by DJ and ended at 7 PM.

The curtain raiser of Varnam’18, the MITS Arts Fest, was held on 31st January at Isaac Newton Hall with Mr. Siddharth Menon (film actor & singer, Thaikkudam Bridge) as guest. The fest was scheduled on 23–24 February, with offstage events from 19th onwards. The inaugural on 23rd began with a prayer, welcome by Ms. Preenu Paul (Arts Convenor), and presidential address by Dr. S. Ramkumar (Principal). It was inaugurated by Mr. Vishnu Unnikrishnan (film actor & screenwriter). Felicitations were delivered by Dr. A.C. Mathai (Academic Advisor) and Mr. Shinoj Shaji (Student Union Chairman). The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Devi Ganga Lakshmi (Vice Chairperson, Student Union). Special credit went to Asso. Prof. Sajeeb Rahman (Union in-charge) and the cultural committee.

Onam 2017 was celebrated on 31st August with grandeur. The program began with a colorful procession featuring Shingarimelam, Pulikali, Maveli, Vamanan, and more. A mega flower carpet was arranged by the Student Union at the basketball court, with students and faculty in traditional attire. The official inauguration at the court included a prayer and lamp lighting by Mr. P George Varghese (Executive Director), Dr. S. Ramkumar (Principal), Dr. A.C. Mathai (Academic Advisor), and the HODs. Onam messages were delivered by Dr. Ramkumar and Dr. Mathai. Cultural highlights included Thiruvathirakali, Onapattu, Malayali Manka, and Malayali Maran, showcasing Kerala’s traditions. All gathered at the canteen for the Onasadya. Outdoor Onam games like Vadamvali, Uriyadi, Musical Chair, and Lemon-Spoon Race added to the festivity. The celebration concluded with prize distribution and a closing ceremony, making it a memorable day for the MITS family.

On 10th March 2017, MITS came alive with Varnam – the annual cultural fest. The day began bright, reflecting the spirited mood of students. Mr. Cijo Varghese and Mr. Gino John, renowned cine artists, graced the occasion as chief guests and captivated the audience with their presence. The fest opened with a short film by staff members, a crowd-pulling highlight. Events like dance, music, quiz, Thiruvathirakali, Nostalgia, and the theme show added grandeur. The theme show featured 40 models in vibrant costumes under the theme “The Wedding.” Competition was fierce, with Yellow House reclaiming the overall cup from defending champions Red House, who finished runners-up. Special honors included Sargaprathibha – Jithin Jyothish (S6 ME), Kalaprathibha – Sreegovind S (S2 ME), and Kalathilakam – Vismaya Uday (S4 ME). The day concluded as a celebration of talent, teamwork, and cultural pride.

Onam 2K16 was celebrated on 9th September 2016 with traditional fervor. The day began with a prayer and flag hoisting by Mr. George Varghese (Executive Director) and Dr. S. Ramkumar (Principal), in the presence of HODs, senior faculty, and Cultural Committee Coordinator Mr. Baiju Karun. The Onam lamp lighting and Para Nirakkal were performed by the dignitaries including Dr. A.C. Mathai (Academic Advisor). Onam messages were delivered by Dr. Ramkumar and Dr. Mathai. A mega Thiruvathirakali was performed by hostel students, followed by cultural events at Isaac Newton Hall such as Onapattu, Malayali Manka, Malayali Maran, Nattarivu (Kerala Quiz), and Ottamthullal. After this, the entire MITS family gathered at the canteen for the grand Onasadya. The celebrations continued with fun-filled games like Musical Chair, Lemon & Spoon, Kite Flying, Uriyadi, and Vadamvali. The day concluded with prize distribution and a closing ceremony, marking a memorable Onam celebration for all.
