SUMMER INTERNSHIP IN MATHEMATICS 2026

The Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities at Muthoot Institute of Technology and Science (MITS), Kochi, successfully conducted a Summer Internship Programme in Mathematics during April–May 2026 in two slots. The programme was designed to provide undergraduate students with an opportunity to explore advanced mathematical concepts, develop problem-solving skills, and gain exposure to contemporary applications of mathematics. A total of 68 students participated in the programme, with 36 students attending Slot 1 conducted from 16 April to 30 April 2026 and 32 students attending Slot 2 conducted from 13 May to 29 May 2026.

The first slot focused on introducing students to important areas of mathematics such as Linear Algebra, Graph Theory, Topology, and Fractals. The second slot provided a broader exposure to both theoretical and applied mathematics. Participants attended sessions on Set Theory, Functions, Metric Spaces, Topology, Topological Data Analysis, Fractals, and applications of Mathematics in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. Hands-on MATLAB training sessions enabled students to gain computational experience, while lectures on Graph Theory introduced them to important concepts and applications in discrete mathematics. The programme also included assessment tests, mentoring sessions, problem-solving activities, project work, presentations, and viva voce examinations, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.

Overall, the Summer Internship Programme in Mathematics 2026 was a highly successful initiative that enriched the academic experience of the participants and strengthened their appreciation of mathematics as a dynamic and evolving discipline.
