A technical talk on “Environmental Issues of Coal Mining & Environmental Clearance Framework” was organized to enhance students’ understanding of sustainable practices in the mining sector. The session was delivered by Mr. Krishnadas A. M., Deputy Manager (Environment) at the Central Mine Planning & Design Institute (CMPDI), Bhubaneswar.
During the session, Mr. Krishnadas elaborated on the environmental challenges associated with coal mining, including land degradation, water pollution, and air quality deterioration. He also explained the environmental clearance (EC) framework, EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) procedures, and strategies for achieving sustainable mining and reclamation.
The talk provided valuable insights into how India can balance its growing energy demands with environmental conservation, encouraging students to adopt eco-conscious approaches in engineering and project planning.
