S3 Electrical and Electronics Engineering students of our college undertook a field visit to the naval base in Kochi

The S3 Electrical and Electronics Engineering students of our college undertook a field visit to the naval base in Kochi. As part of their visit, they explored notable sites such as INS Tir – the pioneering cadet’s training ship, INS Sagardhwani, INS Garuda – Indian Naval air station , NIAT (Naval Institute of aeronautical technology) and engaged with various laboratories and aircraft models at NIAT.

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, MITS coordinated the 'POWER QUIZ 2023' organised by KSEB Officers Association in our college on 21/11/2023, Tuesday. 40 students from our college participated in the quiz.

Megha Mary Biju of S6 EEE won the High Commendation and Fathima Althaf of S2 CSE won Honourable Mention at E-PINK MUN, held from 24 April 2020 to 26 April 2020. The online MUN was conducted by Asian MUN circuit and had over 100 delegates from all over South India. PINK MUN simulated United Nations Human Rights Council based on the agenda, “Human Rights Violation During the Fight Against Covid -19”.

Participation in Reboot Kerala Hackathon

Reboot Kerala Hackathon is an initiative of the Department of Higher Education – Government of Kerala and the Additional Skill Acquisition Program (ASAP).The hackathon aims to provide students of Higher Education Institutions a platform to solve some of the pressing problems we face in our daily lives, and thus inculcate a culture of product innovation and a mindset of problem-solving. This bring students to the mainstream governance by receiving their solutions for the issues faced by various Government departments and helps in finding quick and effective solutions for the development of the state in a cost-cutting manner.

Three teams from the 2018-2022 batch made us proud by getting selection to the final rounds of Reboot Kerala Hackathon 2020. The team comprising of Midhun Raj, Basil Saju, Johns Mathew Cleetus, Leo Benn Dominic,Amritha Asokan and Poojalakshmi K.P participated under the department Water and Environment and presented their idea of“A solution of leakage and theft (NRW)detection of water”.The team comprising of Abhirami A.S, Joseph Mathew,Eldho Kuriakose,Donal Benny,Shabana M.B and Alwin Jiby participated under the department  Home Affairs and presented their ideaof “A solution for lie detection without touching the body”.Both the teams reached the final 15 out of 30. . The team comprising of Fadil Farooq,Benjit Benny,Tirzah Shajan, Abhijeeth M.A and Antony Mathewwill participate under the department  Energy and presented their idea of“A solution for apt generation of energy”.

Participation in Young Innovators Program

The students from S3EEE made us proud by participating in the Young Innovators Program under Kerala Development and Strategic Council (K-DISC) organised in November 2019.The team comprising of Midhun Raj, Basil Saju ,Jones Mathew Cleetus and Leo Benn Dominic  of S3EEE was selected to the state level competition for their project ‘Gesture controlled Quadrotor’. The team of Fadil Farooq, Meenakshi, Tirzah Shajan and Abhijeeth M.A of S3EEE presented in district level for the project “Health emergency Tracker/dialler’

KSEB Seminar Series

The district level of 11th seminar series by the KSEB Engineers Association was conducted at MITS on Feb 2nd ,2020.The topic for this years series was “Power System Resilience-Strategies in Kerala Perspective”. Students from various engineering colleges in the district participated for the same and presented their ideas.Megha Shaiju and Mallika Ravi of S8EEE bagged the Special Innovative Idea Prize.

2. Dr.Gylson Thomas and Dr.Chikku Abraham was appointed as KTU External Auditors.

3.The PhD work of Dr.Gylson Thomas was recognised by the National Institute of Health, US govt organization for their Medical Imaging Application.

4.Meera Sivadas, Ms. Sindhura Rose Thomas and Mr.Tony Mathew completed the IBM Certification course on Artificial Intelligence and Mr.Ajith Vijayan completed IBM Certification course on Business Intelligence

2)Asst Professor Geethu Chacko got the best paper award for the paper titeled “ Grid tied Inverter system with leakage current cancelletion for photovoltaic applications”, at IEEE International Conference on Control power, Communication and Computing Technologies (ICCPCCT 2018) held at Vimal Jyothi Engineering College.

Resmy Vinod, Rahul Eldho Bijoy, Shahanaz M and Paul Eldho of S6 EEE Students has won first prize with a cash award of Rs. 20,000/- for presentation of research paper titled “Bio waste converter- The low cost methodology for green energy production” for state level paper contest category in KETKON-2018 jointly organized by APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University and KSCSTE hosted by Sahrdaya College of Engineering and Technology, Thrissur during 23rd-25th February 2018.

KETCON- Paper Presentation First Prize

S6 EEE students – Reshmy Vinod, Shahanas M M, Rahul Eldho Bijoy and Paul Eldho – have won the first prize for their research paper titled “Bio-waste converter-the long lasting methodology for green energy production”, at KETCON (Kerala technological Congress) technical fest organised by A P J Abdul Kalam university and KSCSTE(Kerala State Council for Science, Technology & Environment) .

RoboRAVE India 2017

Automatic ironing system” project by Vishnuprasad V., Vinu Vijayan, Rahul Eldho Bijoy and Chandrakant P. of S5 EEE guided by Mr. Jim George (Assistant Professor , EEE) bagged First prize in Entrepreneurial challenge of RoboRAVE India 2017.They were selected for RoboRAVE International to be held at Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA , May 10-12, 2018.

Yuva Mastermind 2017

Project on “AUTONOMOUS BABY WALKER” by Jishnu P Saju, V S Arjun, Dhanya Mohandas and Kavya Lawrence of S3 EEE guided by Mr.Jim George (Assistant Professor, EEE) and Mr. Tony Mathew (Assistant Professor, EEE) was selected for Manorama Yuva Mastermind Season 8 with a funding of Rs.10000.Idea was taken for initial presentation in front of jury members- Dr. Achyuthshankar S. Nair (Head of Bioinformatics Department, Kerala University), Dr. Jippu Jacob ( Senior Professor , Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kanjirappally) and Dr. Jacob Philip ( Professor, Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kanjirappally . It was a good exposure for students. Initial fund of Rs. 5000 was received on 2/10/17. IEDC (Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell) fund of Rs 5000 was also presented to the students on 26/10/2017.

NSS Best Volunteer - State Level

Rohit R Nair of Seventh Semester Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department (S7 EEE) received the NSS Best Volunteer Award. The State level award was presented to him by the honourable Minister of Agriculture and Youth Affairs of Kerala, Sri. Sunil Kumar on 8th July, 2017. The award was bestowed in recognition to the exemplary participation and volunteering in various activities of the MITS NSS Technical Cell. Sri Abdul Jabbar Ahmed, Director of NSS Technical Cell, Kerala was present on the occasion.

VOLTAS internship for S7 students

Four students from EEE department ( Nair Rohit Ramesh, Mintu Anna Paul, Jeemol Maria Alias, Vinitha P.B.) have successfully completed a one month prestigious internship at VOLTAS.

RoboRAVE,ASIA 2017

Team KARMA comprising of Athira P Raju, Sreemol M, Vipin S and Gokul Krishna guided by Mr. Jim George, Asst: Professor Department of EEE have participated in RoboRAVE Asia 2017 conducted at University of Science and Technology, Beijing,China on Feb 8th and 9th 2017and won second prize. They have got opportunity to contest in RoboRAVE World level completion to be held at Colombia, US.

Malayala Manorama Yuva Mastermind Competition 2016

Athira P Raju, Sreemol M, Aruna S M, Vipin & Gokul Krishna of EEE department guided by Mr. Jim George and Mr. Sunil Paul bagged Third Prize worth Rs. 40,000/- in MalayalaManorama “Yuva Mastermind” competition.

National Energy Auditing Competition

Jephin Varghese Johnson, MeeraRajendran Nair, Rohit Ramesh, MintuAnna Paul and IrinIssac of EEE department guided by Assoc. Prof Chikku Abraham won first prize in National Energy Auditing Competition organized by Energy Conservation Society in March 2016.

TCS EnginX- 2016 Competion

The team led by Mr. Anirudh (EEE), Mohammed Razeen (EEE), Kaushik Shankar (EEE) and Vincy Rajan (CSE) has made it to the pre-final round of TCS Engine X competition. . The project is being guided by Chikku Abraham.

KSEB - First Prize

S8 students -Nair Rohit Ramesh and Gopika Assi- secured first prize at district level for Seminar presentation titled “ Electric Mobility and Power Utilities- Challenges and Solutions” , organized by KSEBEA ( Kerala State Electricity Board Engineers Association) at KMEA College of Engineering, Alwaye. They have been qualified for State level competition.

CONTROL AND SIMULATION LABORATORY

The main focus of Control and Simulation Laboratory is in supporting the teaching and research activities of The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, under Control Division. The laboratory is equipped with up to date equipment’s and software’s to support our under graduates experiments, students projects and research projects etc.

Simulation lab has 25 computers equipped with modern software tools like MATLAB and QUARC to innovatively solve current day engineering problems faced by academia and industry.

POWER ELECTRONICS LABORATORY

Power Electronics Lab, which comes under the Department of Electrical& Electronics engineering has got the state of the art lab facilities, maintains high standard in academics and act as a research & project centre in the area of Power conversion technology for the students and the faculty. This lab addresses the issues related to energy conversion, power converters, PWM Techniques etc. Simulation verification of the actual circuit can be done here through the most modern software tools such as MATLAB, PSIM etc. Experiments and projects in the lab include different types of triggering circuits, AC-DC controlled rectification of power circuits, DC-AC conversion using PWM techniques, Speed control of Motors using Converters, Voltage regulators, Harmonic analysis of power electronics circuits etc.

The Electrical Machines Laboratory is set up with a vision to support the teaching and research activities of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department. The Laboratory is equipped with a collection of AC & DC machines manufactured by Kirloskar Electric/Crompton Greaves and Transformers manufactured by Scientific Tech. This lab helps the students to develop experimental skill, familiarize with the constructional details of different types, working principle and performance of different Electrical Machines.

ELECTRICAL MEASUREMENTS LABORATORY

The Electrical Measurements Laboratory is set up with a vision to support the teaching and learning activities of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department. It set up with a vision to enhance students to learn the basic concepts in Electrical Engineering. The Laboratory is equipped with a collection of AC & DC equipments manufactured by Power turn, Scientech and Scientific tech, Oxford and all the meters are of Meco. This lab helps the students to develop experimental skill, familiarize with the constructional details of different types, working principle and performance of different electrical meters, bridges and trainer kits.

POWER SYSTEM LAB

The Power System Lab is set up under the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department with a vision to enhance the students to study the various aspects of Power System. Power System Lab consists of 60 computers equipped with modern Power System Analysis software such as MATLAB and MiPower. The lab helps the students to design and conduct simulation studies in various fields such as Power System, Control System, Power Electronics and Image Processing

ELECTRICAL WORKSHOP
