A session on “Introduction to WEKA: Machine Learning Toolkit” was taken by Dr.Anand Hareendran S., HoD, CSE, on 22nd July 2021 from 2pm to 3.30PM. On 23rd July  2021, session on “Deep Learning Demystified using MATLAB : A simple handwriting recognition system” was handled by Mr. Mahalingam P.R., Asst. Professor, CSE Department, MITS.

“Cyber Forensic and Ethical hacking tools Workshop” was offered by the learning partner of CDAC – FACE from 26th July 2021 to 30 July 2021(9.45 A.M – 1 P.M) in Caesar Lab. Resource person was Mr.Ragesh. All faculty members from CSE Department attended the same.

Faculty Development Programme on “Analysis and Implementation of Data Security on Hosts and Networks”

Date: 10th May 2021 – 15th May 2021

KTU supported Faculty Development Programme on “Analysis and Implementation of Data Security on Hosts and Networks” under the thrust area of Cyber Security was conducted from 10.05.2021 to 15.05.2021. A total of 78 faculty members registered for the programme, and 66 participants successfully completed the proceedings. Sessions were handled by eminent academicians, researchers, and representatives from the industry. Day 1 started with inauguration and was followed by session on Cyber security – A researcher’s view by Dr. Sangeetha Jose, GEC, Idukki. This session gave an overview about cyber security from the point of view of a researcher. It also discussed the role of cryptology to ensure cyber security with the help of a case study along with different research problems. Day 2 session1 was on Fundamentals of Penetration testing and penetration testing with Python. This was taken by Mr. Manindar Mohan, Sr. Cybersecurity engineer, Beagle Cyber Innovations and Ms. Febna V.M., Cyber Security engineer, Beagle Cyber innovations. Day 3 started with session on IoT security. Resource person was Ms.Fasila K.A., CSE, MITS and it was followed by a session on Cloud security by Mr. Mahalingam P.R., CSE, MITS. Fourth day first session was on Cyber forensics-Methods and tools by Mr. Balan C., Associate Director, C-DAC, Thiruvananthapuram. Last session was on Web application penetration testing by Mr. Siddharth S. , Programmer Analyst Trainee, Cognizant.

Faculty Development Programme on Artificial Intelligence in Natural Language Processing

 Date: 8th February 2021 – 12th February 2021

The department of Computer Science & Engineering organized a five-day online Faculty
Development Program on “Artificial Intelligence in Natural Language Processing” from 8th February to 12th February 2021. This FDP was open to faculty members, research scholars, and PG students. The course was intended to provide an understanding to the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence in an industrial perspective. It helped the participants to explore the area of Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing and its various applications. The speakers of the FDP were Dr.Shobana N. V from RIT Kottayam, Mr.Premjith B from Center for Computational Engineering and Networking, Amritha School of Engineering. Coimbatore (Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham), and Dr.Rajesh Cherian Roy, Dr.Resmi N. G and Ms.Dhanya Sudarsan from Muthoot Institute of Technology & Science. Faculty members from different engineering colleges, research scholars from various universities, final year Btech students and Mtech students were part of the programme. 52 participants attended the FDP.

Faculty Development Programme on Cyber Security-Principles and Techniques

 Date: 24th August 2020 – 27th August 2020

CSE  department, in association with Tata Consultancy Services,  organized a 4-days Faculty Development Programme on “Cyber Security- Principles & Techniques”. Day 1 started with Inauguration, followed by a session on Cyber security enterprise Procedures and Secure coding, handled by Rohith Prabhakar and Rinilnath R. Day 2 session was handled by Arjun Babu and the topic was Identity and Access Management. On 3rd day, Cryptography protocols and standards were discussed by Mr. Delvin Benoy. FDP ended with a session on Ethical hacking by Ms. Satheetha P.S.  All resource persons were from TCS.

In-house Faculty Development Programme - January 2020

Day 1 : 9/1/2020

Chatbots are changing the way we interact with the world. Programming chatbots is a great way to work at the forefront of artificial intelligence. The FDP provides an introduction on how to build chatbots using DialogFlow and integrating it to background processes using Firebase methods.

Day 2 : 10/1/2020

Digital Image processing is a research area which finds its application in almost all fields. Image enhancement and segmentation is a crucial step towards image understanding and analysis. This FDP provides a fast paced introduction into the various image enhancement and segmentation techniques which enables the participants to choose appropriate techniques according to their application. An insight on the various companies doing research in this area is also provided. The tool preferred for implementation is MATLAB.

Faculty Development Programme on Research Trends in Computer Science

 Date: 2nd July 2019 – 6th July 2019

Day 1: 2/7/2019

The first day session started at 10:30 am by Dr. Gopakumar G. on the topic “Demystifying Machine Learning: What, Why and How?”. The session covered the mathematical aspects of different machine learning techniques including deep learning followed by a practical session using MATLAB in the afternoon.

Day 2: 3/7/2019

Day 2 forenoon session was handled by Dr. C.K. Raju on the topic “Deep Learning” focusing on examples using Tensorflow/Keras. Afternoon session was handled by Mr. Mahalingam P R on “Effectively Communicating AI Research” which covered measuring accuracy using cross validation.

Day 3: 4/7/2019

The session on ‘IoT for Smart Cities, Machine Learning in IoT’ was handled by Dr. Vimalathithan Rathinasabapathy. The session covered the applications of IoT and demo of IoT modules.

Day 4: 5/7/2019

The session on “Natural Language Processing” was handled by Mr. Premjith B. The practical session focused on implementation using Keras.

Day 5: 6/7/2019

The session, on the topic “Linear Algebra upto SVD in a Day” was taken by Dr. K.P. Soman. The session covered hands-on using MATLAB.

The FDP ended after the feedback collection and distribution of certificates.

Workshop on Deep Learning for Computer Vision (sponsored by KSCSTE)


 Date: 9th January 2018 – 13th January 2018


The Department of CSE conducted a 5-day workshop on Deep Learning for Computer Vision from 9th to 13th of January 2018. It was attended by 19 external participants and 30 students from MITS. The workshop was co-sponsored by KSCSTE. Sessions were handled by Dr. Venkatesh Babu (IISc Bengaluru), Dr. Deepak Mishra (IIST Thiruvananthapuram), Mr. Praseed Pai (UST Global), Dr. Dilip Thomas (Adjunct Asso. Professor, CSE, MITS), Dr. Resmi N. G (Assistant Professor, CSE, MITS), and Mr. Mahalingam P. R (Assistant Professor, CSE, MITS). The workshop was coordinated by Asst. Professor Bineeth Kuriakose and Asst. Professor Jisha James.

FDP on Web Technologies : An Industrial Perspective


 Date: 15th December 2017 – 16th December 2017


The Department of CSE conducted an FDP on Web Technologies : An Industrial Perspective on 15th and 16th of December, 2017. Sessions were handled on Basic HTML and CSS, Bootstrap framework, PHP, Javascript, JQuery, and JSON. The sessions were attended by 13 external faculty members and some members of MITS faculty. Sessions were handled by Mr. Nikhil Baby from Menerva Softwares (an alumnus of CSE Department at MITS), Mr. Sreeraj R (Royal College of Engineering and Technology), and Ms. Anupama T D (Lead Engineer, QBurst Technologies). The workshop was coordinated by Asst. Professor Bineeth Kuriakose and Asst. Professor Mahalingam P R.
