The event commenced with a thorough introduction to the fundamentals of AI, ensuring that attendees of all backgrounds were equipped with the knowledge needed to understand the innovative capabilities of ChatGPT. The sessions highlighted the extensive applications of ChatGPT, ranging from content generation to functioning as virtual assistants, showcasing its potential to enhance various aspects of projects. Participants engaged in hands-on activities, allowing them to interact with ChatGPT directly and experience its capabilities in real-time. The workshop also served as a valuable networking hub, connecting like-minded individuals, professionals, and AI enthusiasts, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing. Coding Challenge: A 7-Day Journey into Programming

Date: 9th October 2023

The “7-Day Coding Challenge” has successfully concluded, providing an exhilarating and transformative experience for participants. Over the course of seven days, students engaged with a series of thoughtfully crafted coding challenges designed to test and enhance their problem- solving skills, coding proficiency, and creativity. Covering a diverse range of topics—from algorithms and data structures to web development and machine learning—the challenge offered a comprehensive exploration of the coding universe. Participants had the opportunity to sharpen their skills, learn new techniques, and build confidence in tackling complex problems. The event also fostered a vibrant online community, allowing participants to connect, collaborate, and learn from each other. With a range of prizes and recognition for standout performers, the challenge not only elevated participants’ coding abilities but also prepared them for future programming endeavors. Overall, the “7-Day Coding Challenge” proved to be a rewarding and impactful experience, setting a high standard for future coding events.

 

A Road to Your Placements

Date: 11th October 2023

On October 11, 2023, MITS S3 CSE students in MITS participated in the online session “A Road to Your Placements” with V U Bushra, a Senior Software Developer at Birlasoft. During the hour-long event, V U Bushra shared her personal journey in the industry, provided guidance on navigating the placement landscape, and offered insights into Birlasoft as an employer. A Q&A session facilitated direct engagement with the speaker, allowing students to seek advice on placements and career development. The feedback from participants was highly positive, emphasizing the practicality and real-world relevance of the information shared. In conclusion, the session was a resounding success, equipping students with valuable insights for their future careers.

Talk on From Challenges to Triumph

Date: 16th October 2023

On October 16, 2023, the “From Challenges to Triumph” talk featured Nibin Mathew, a Digital Accessibility Specialist at Robert Bosch, Western violinist, and international blind tennis champion. The session, held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, aimed to motivate and enlighten second and third-year CSE students of MITS. Nibin shared his personal journey, highlighting his ability to overcome challenges as a visually impaired individual. He emphasized the importance of digital accessibility and showcased his talents as a Western violinist and blind tennis champion. An interactive segment allowed students to engage with Nibin directly, fostering connection and inspiration. Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with students appreciating Nibin’s resilience and unique perspective. In conclusion, the talk left a lasting impression, inspiring students to approach their journeys with vigor and resilience.

                     

Technical Talk on Blockchain Fundamentals and Applications

Date: 14th November 2023

Dr. Jubilant Kizhakkethottam, a distinguished Blockchain Researcher and Professor at Saintgits College of Engineering, delivered an insightful presentation on “Blockchain Fundamentals and Applications” at the APJ Abdul Kalam Hall on November 14, 2023. The event, organized by ACM MITS and the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department, provided a comprehensive overview of blockchain technology, covering its core principles, decentralized structure, and diverse applications across industries. Dr. Kizhakkethottam’s expertise, coupled with the engaging Q&A sessions, fostered a productive learning environment for the audience, comprising students, faculty, and professionals. The session, held from 10 AM to 12 PM, offered valuable insights into the transformative potential of blockchain technology and its emerging trends, contributing to a deeper understanding of this revolutionary field.

 

NEXUS AI Hackathon

Date: 20th April 2024

Nexus’24, a flagship 24-hour hackathon, was jointly hosted by the ACM chapter of MITS and CLIQUE, the department association of the Computer Science & Engineering Department. The event focused exclusively on various concepts of Artificial Intelligence. With an impressive prize pool of Rs. 40,000, the hackathon comprised an online screening followed by an offline competition. The event commenced at 9:00 AM on April 20, 2024. Thirteen teams from various colleges across Kerala were selected for the finals, totaling 50 participants. The hackathon was supported by 25 volunteers and guided by 5 mentors. Three distinguished professionals served as judges: 1. Dr. Anand Hareendran, Principal of Adi Sankara College, Kalady 2. Dr. Sailesh Sivan, Professor, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) 3. Dr. Mahalingam P R, InApp Technologies The competition witnessed impressive performances from all teams.

The results were as follows:

 

First Prize: Team “3 Brain Cells” from MITS Members: Mr. Adish S, Mr. Anandakrishnan M, and Ms. Amitha Thomas

Second Prize (Tie): 1. Team “Major Sreekumar” from MITS Members: Mr. Basil B Palathinkal, Mr. Akshay Francis, Mr. Abhinav K R, and Ms. Karthika Nair 2. Team “Try Tech” from AISAT Members: Mr. Ritesh Chhetri, Ms. Jeeva A Johney, Ms. Fathimathu Swafa, and Ms. Soumya Annie Thomas

Third Prize: Team “KarmaBytes” from MITS Members: Mr. Jacob Jomy, Ms. Gayathri Shankar, Mr. K.M. Nitin, and Mr. Alan Sebastian .

The event concluded at 1:00 PM on April 21, 2024, marking the end of an intense and innovative 24-hour hackathon..

 

ACADEMIC YEAR: 2022-23

Community Outreach Program-Hour of Code

Date: 27 th July 2022 

The ACM MITS Student Chapter organized an Hour of Code, a community outreach program, at Bhavans Vidya Mandir in Eroor, Thripunithura, on 27th July 2022, starting at 10:30 AM and lasting for 1.5 hours. The session focused on introducing the concepts of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Deep Learning (DL) to the students. The workshop was led by Aashna P.K., Ann Rose Cleetus, and Anoopa Prasad, all second-year students from Muthoot Institute of Technology and Science. These resource persons provided an engaging and accessible overview of these advanced topics, aiming to spark interest and curiosity among the younger students. Through interactive explanations and demonstrations, they broke down complex ideas, making them understandable and relatable. The event successfully created awareness and enthusiasm for AI, ML, and DL among the participants, showcasing the chapter’s commitment to spreading knowledge and inspiring the next generation of tech learners.

 

Webinar on Blockchain Technology

The ACM Student Chapter of MITS is set to organize a Tech Talk on Blockchain Technology on 20th September 2022, specifically for Semester 5 students. The session will be led by Jubilant Jacob, a distinguished Professor from Saintgits College of Engineering, who is known for his expertise in the field. The talk aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Blockchain, covering its fundamental principles, applications, and potential impact on various industries. This event is designed to enhance the students’ knowledge of emerging technologies, preparing them for future academic and professional endeavors. By engaging with an expert in the field, students will have the opportunity to explore the intricacies of Blockchain, ask insightful questions, and gain valuable insights. The Tech Talk reflects the chapter’s commitment to bringing cutting-edge technological knowledge to its members, fostering an environment of continuous learning and innovation.

Webinar on Introduction to ACM

In October 2022, the ACM MITS Student Chapter conducted an orientation for first-year students, offering an informative introduction to the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the chapter’s activities. The session highlighted the various initiatives and events organized by the chapter, emphasizing its role in fostering a vibrant community of tech enthusiasts and professionals. Students were made aware of the numerous benefits of ACM membership, including access to a global network of peers and professionals, opportunities for skill development, and participation in exclusive workshops, seminars, and competitions. The orientation aimed to inspire new students to engage with the chapter’s activities, showcasing how ACM can enhance their academic journey and professional growth. By the end of the session, many first-year students expressed interest in joining the chapter, eager to take advantage of the opportunities it offers.

Workshop on LateX

Date: 28th November 2022

On 28th November 2022, the ACM MITS Student Chapter conducted a hands-on LaTeX workshop exclusively for S5 CSE students, with the goal of equipping them with the skills necessary to produce professional and efficient project reports using LaTeX. The workshop was led by Ashwin Shaji, a senior student from S7 CSE, who provided detailed instruction on the use of LaTeX for creating well-structured technical documents. The session was highly interactive, allowing the 105 participating S6 CSE students to engage directly with the content, practice LaTeX commands, and receive personalized guidance. The workshop successfully enhanced the students’ understanding of LaTeX, making it a valuable tool for their academic and project- related tasks. This event exemplified the chapter’s commitment to delivering practical, skill- building opportunities that directly benefit its members’ academic performance.

 

Seminar on Transformative Developments in Technology

Date: 23rd  February  2023

ACM MITS Student Chapter conducted an informative seminar on IoT was held at Vishwesharaya Hall, where experts in the field shared their insights and knowledge about this exciting domain. The seminar saw a remarkable turnout, with attendees from various backgrounds showcasing their curiosity and passion for learning about new and emerging technologies. The seminar featured distinguished speakers who shed light on different aspects of IoT. Among them, Mr. Jeen Geevar’s presentation on IoT was truly insightful and informative. His expertise and passion for the subject matter were evident as he effortlessly explained complex concepts in a clear and concise manner. The practical examples provided by Mr. Geevar greatly aided the audience’s understanding of the potential applications of IoT in various industries. Another highlight of the event was Mr. Basil Abraham’s talk, which left a lasting impact on the audience. His expertise in the field of IoT was commendable, and his presentation captivated the attendees. We feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn from Mr.Abraham, and we eagerly look forward to exploring this exciting field further. Additionally, Mr. Sumesh Kumar S delivered an enlightening speech that kept the audience engaged throughout. His ability to simplify complex concepts and make them relatable was admirable. It was evident that Mr. Kumar’s knowledge in IoT was profound, and his words left a lasting impression on the attendees.

First Try on AI : Introductory Talk and Hands-on Session

A hands on session to implement basic AI model in Python was conducted on 28-1-2022 and 4-2-2022. Resource persons were Dr. Priya C V and Dr Jina Varghese, Assistant Professor, CSE Dept, MITS. 64 students attended the sessions.

 

Latex Workshop


Date : 4-5-2022

A workshop on Latex was conducted by Emalda Maria Wilson for S8 CSE. 60 students from S6 CSE attended the workshop.

Quiz(Kahoot)


Date : 28-1-2022

A quiz was conducted on 28-1-2022 in Kahoot platform. The task was simply to answer the questions in a given amount of time. 61 students participated.

Webinar on Cyber Forensics

ACM MITS Student Chapter Conducted a webinar for the CSE department of MITS. Session was handled by Mr. Nabeel Koya ( Sr. Scientist , C-DAC , Trivandrum). 172 participants attended this intra college event.

Mirage


Date : 10th September 2020-30th September 2020

ACM MITS Student Chapter Conducted an online competition where the contestants have to create an animated story on Instagram only using stickers and GIFs. The contestants had to make a screen recording of the final version of their
creation and need to send the same to the coordinators. The judgment was based on 30 percent of the number of likes and 70 percent on the amount of creativity in the story. 30 participated in this inter college event.

 

Hour of Code


Date : 1st October 2020

ACM MITS Student Chapter conducted Hour Of Code, a community outreach event on 1st October 2020 for students of
Sanskara School, Kochi. This was a hands-on session on Scratch Programming ( concentrating students from class 3 – 8) . Resource persons were Kritty S. Varghese and Anu Abraham(2018-2022 CSE).

ACADEMIC YEAR 2019

The Hour of Code


Date : 29th October 2019

A community outreach event .It is a global movement designed to generate excitement in   young people. The session was held at Bhavans Munshi Vidyamandir. Session covered introduction, working, coding and demo session on line follower robot and an introduction to AI.

 

Inquisition


Date :  30th October 2019 to 14th November 2019

An online plus offline treasure hunt as an inter-departmental event at MITS. Round 1 was an online event in which participants had to answer certain questions. Qualifiers went to round 2 which was an offline treasure hunt. 

 

Department Activity Hour : Online Quiz Competition


Date : 22nd January 2020

An online quiz competition was conducted for the students of the Computer Science Department. About 30 questions were prepared and 5 winners were identified.

Workshop to learn Angular platform for building mobile and desktop web applications also covering the basics like html, css, etc.

 

 

Department Activity Hour : Team Building


Date: 12th February 2020 

An icebreaker activity mainly concentrating on team building and interactive skills. Activities like Helium Stick and Charades were used for this.

 

Ethical Hacking Workshop

A workshop on Ethical Hacking was conducted in coordination with the college techfest team. The workshop was handled by Siddharth S, Certified Ethical Hacker.

WordPress Workshop


Date: November 2018

Department of Computer Science and Engineering of MITS in association with ACM MITS Chapter organized a workshop based on the Content Management System, WordPress on November 2018. The session was taken by the final year students. Students from all the semesters attended the session. It gave the students an insight on developing a website within minutes.

ACADEMIC YEAR 2017

NS2 Session


Date: 15th March 2017

NS2 is an open-source simulation tool that runs on Linux. It is a discreet event simulator targeted at networking research and provides substantial support for simulation of routing, multicast protocols and IP protocols, such as UDP, TCP, RTP and SRM over wired and wireless (local and satellite) networks. The session provided the attendees a new approach on viewing the traffic in networks and on understanding the various protocols which a network follows.

 

Android Workshop (Intra-college)


Date: 3rd July – 4th July 2017 

Department of Computer Science and Engineering of MITS in association with ACM MITS Chapter organized a workshop based on Android development from 3rd July 2017 to 4th July 2017.It was an intra college workshop.The session was taken by the final year students. Students from all the semesters attended the session.Android is a mobile operating system developed by Google. It is based on a modified version of the Linux kernel and other open source software, and is designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. It gave the students an insight on developing an android application and the fundamentals to look upon while in development.

 

Android Workshop (Inter-college)

Department of Computer Science and Engineering of MITS in association with ACM MITS Chapter organized a workshop based on Android development from 8th September 2017 to 9th September 2017.It was an inter college workshop.The session was taken by experts. Students from inside and outside the colleges attended the session. The fundamentals of android application development was taught in the sessions. The workshop recieved a quite positive feedback.

Department of Computer Science and Engineering of MITS in association with ACM MITS Chapter organized a program in Digital Signal Processing. The session was attended by both faculties and students. 

 

Open MP Workshop


Date: 29th June 2016 – 3rd July 2016 

OpenMP is an application programming interface that supports multi-platform shared memory multiprocessing programming in C, C++, and Fortran, on most platforms, instruction set architectures and operating systems, including Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, Linux, macOS, and Windows. The workshop was organized by final year students. The sessions were very helpful in understanding the API ‘s and its importance in the development cycle of a software – reply by the attendees. 

Node JS and REST Architecture Workshop


Date: 1st July – 9th July 2017

Node.js is an open-source, cross-platform, JavaScript run-time environment that executes JavaScript code outside of a browser. REST is a software architectural style that defines the set of rules to be used for creating web services. Web services which follow the REST architectural style are known as RESTful web services. It allows requesting systems to access and manipulate web resources by using a uniform and predefined set of rules.The workshop was attended by students as well as faculties. It gave them a deeper understanding the current webflow and the emergence and adoption of new technologies.

Git Workshop


Date: 4th July 2015

Department of Computer Science and Engineering of MITS in association with MITS ACM Chapter conducted a workshop on the Version Control System, Git. It is a distributed version-control system for tracking changes in source code during software development. It is designed for coordinating work among programmers, but it can be used to track changes in any set of files. Its goals include speed, data integrity, and support for distributed, non-linear workflows.The session was attended by the students in the institute. The Workshop recieved quite a positive feedback.

 

Wireless Sensors to Internet Of Things

TimWireless sensor network refers to a group of spatially dispersed and dedicated sensors for monitoring and recording the physical conditions of the environment and organizing the collected data at a central location. Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the trending and emerging technology which finds applications in many fields. The Internet of Things, or IoT, is a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. The sole purpose of the program was to give an insight to these technologies. The sessions were very informative – commented by the attendees.  

 

Innovate 1.0

Innovate 1.0 was a program to make the students realize the latest trends in technology and make them work on it. It gave them the freedom to explore the fields in technology and develop something innovative.

ACM INAUGURATION

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is an international learned society for computing. It was founded in 1947, and is the world’s largest scientific and educational computing society. It is a not-for-profit professional membership group. Its membership is more than 100,000 as of 2011. Its headquarters are in New York City. The ACM is an umbrella organization for academic and scholarly interests in computer science. Its motto is “Advancing Computing as a Science & Profession”.

The Muthoot Institute of Technology and Science ACM Student Chapter was inaugurated by Shri.Janardhanan P S, Technical Consultant, SunTec Business Solutions,on 26th March, 2015.

The Muthoot Institute of Technology and Science ACM Student Chapter was inaugurated by Shri.Janardhanan P S, Technical Consultant, SunTec Business Solutions,on 26th March, 2015. The website of the ACM Chapter was launched on the occasion.During his inaugural address Shri.Janardhanan P S gave his deliberations on the current aspects of computing. He talked about the significance of professional associations like ACM in the College and also congratulated the Department on its initiatives in establishing such student Chapter. He advised the students to use these forums for updating their academic and professional skills.
