VARNAM’19

Art is anything that defines the divine experience of aesthticism.It sets the tune to life and a significant unavoidable factor of the student community. Muthoot institute of technology and science hosted the 4th annual Arts Fest- Varnam 2019 on 15th and 16th february, 2019. The 2 days of extravaganza witnessed an overwhelming partcipatition of events from students of different branches and years. The students are divided into 4 houses- Red, Blue, Green and Yellow guided by their respective captains and vice captains.Varnam was organized with the objective to provide a platform for students to showcase their talent with a competitive spirit.This arts fest was a grand blend of events on Dance, Music, theatre, Literature and Fine Arts.

The official logo launch of the fest took place on college basketball ground on February 8th,2019 followed by the commencement of off-stage cultural events on 11th february which continued till 14th february.Various events were conducted during those 4 days which included literature and fine arts like essay writing, painting, face art, debate, cartooning and so on. The spirit of arts was boosted with an open mic participation event conducted on 13th february, where students irrespective of their classes performed in front of their fellow Mitsians.

The inaugural ceremony of Varnam 2019 took place in the main stage on 15th february at 9.00 AM . The lamp lighting ceremony was initiated by the chief guest of the day, Mr. Sabareeh Prabhaker, one of India’s leading violonists,and other dignitaries on the stage included DR. Neelakantan P C(Principal), Dr. Chikku Abraham(Vice Principal), Ms. Sreenu.G(Arts Coordinator), Mr. Benson Benny(Chairman, student council) and Mr.Akhil Babu(Arts secretary). To honor his presence in this auspicious occation, Mr. Sabareesh prabhaker, was awarded with a portrait of him drawn by Mr. Rohith, a first year student in MITS. The inaugural ceremony was followed by a mind soothing performance by Sabareesh, which lasted for about an hour.

The on-stage events of Varnam 2019 commenced with Thirvathira at 10.45 AM in the main stage. During the following 2 days, the campus stood witness to about 23 events, with more than 100 performances on 2 stages(Main stage and Isacc Newton Hall). The participants, with their effort and dedication combined, showcased their talents and energy-packed performance.

Varnam was graced by the most beautiful and talented playback singer, Ms. Jyotsna Radhakrishnan on 16th february, 2nd day of the arts fest. The valedictory ceremony took place after one of the most colorful and the very last event of the fest, Theme show. Though all the cultural events had come to an end, the audiance were engaged with positive vibes as Jyotsna sang with her powerful voice, showcasing a breathtaking performance.

The cultural championship trophy for the year 2019 was shared by the Green and Red. Blue house was entitled the runner ups. The individual champions, kalathilakam and kalapratibha were bagged by Vismaya Uday and Cyril Philip Chacko respectively. Mary Anil was awarded the title of Sargaprathiba.

Though being just an intra college fest, the convivial mood that the two days bring about is at par with the sheen of any inter college fest. Months of hard work and team spirit gave way to the colours that embellished the Mitsian sky during these two days.
