Solar PV low voltage DC (LVDC) grid installation

A 48V Solar-PV based low voltage DC (LVDC) grid is designed and installed at St. Mary’s Balika bhavan Nellipathy, Agali P.O, Palakkad, Kerala. This is project is funded by a US based charity trust, ICON Charities, Inc.(Indian Christian Orthodox Network) and in technical collaboration with CYGNI Energy Pvt. Ltd, Hyderabad, Telangana.

The aim of the project was design, development and implementation of solar based LVDC (48V) grid. The mentioned project location is found to be experiencing blackouts for two to four days a week based on weather conditions and many other reasons. Therefore, it is identified that a viable solution is harvesting energy from renewable sources like solar, wind etc. In which most common, available and cost effective solution is solar power. Therefore, a solar-PV based system will ensure 24×7 uninterruptible power with the help of energy storage devices.

The project is completed under the supervision of Mr. Chikku Abraham (Asso. Prof.), Dr, Gylson Thomas (Prof.), Dr. Sijo Augustine (Asst. Prof.) along with student members Mr. Nair Rohit Ramesh, (S6 EEE), Mr. Vipin R, (S6 EEE), Mr. Jortin Harris, (S4 EEE) and Mr. Sreejith R, (S4 EEE)
