CLIQUE – DEPARTMENT ASSOCIATION

 

Clique – The Computer Science & Engineering Student Association was inaugurated on 31st July 2014 by Mr. Jayakrishan K, Co Founder and Director Xtend Technologies, Kochi. The Function was presided by our Principal Dr. Pushpa Kumar and our Executive director Mr. George Varghese. The association is formed to increase the technical knowledge of the students by conducting talk from renowned people from academia and industry.

ACM

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is an international learned society for computing. It was founded in 1947, and is the world’s largest scientific and educational computing society. It is a not-for-profit professional membership group. Its membership is more than 100,000 as of 2011. Its headquarters are in New York City. The ACM is an umbrella organization for academic and scholarly interests in computer science. Its motto is “Advancing Computing as a Science & Profession”.

ACM is organized into over 171 local chapters and 37 Special Interest Groups (SIGs), through which it conducts most of its activities. Additionally, there are over 500 college and university chapters. The first student chapter was founded in 1961 at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. ACM publishes over 50 journals including the prestigious Journal of the ACM, and two general magazines for computer professionals, Communications of the ACM (also known as Communications or CACM) and Queue. Other publications of the ACM include: ACM XRDS, ACM Interactions, ACM Computing Surveys (CSUR) etc..

In addition to student and regular members, ACM has several advanced membership grades to recognize those with multiple years of membership and “demonstrated performance that sets them apart from their peers”. Distinguished members, senior members, Distinguished speakers are some of the special members of ACM.

FOSS CLUB

 

FOSS@MITS is a community of passionate college students, who have come together for the cause of promoting and contributing to Free and Open Source Software, whilst achieving excellence in the field of technology in their pursuit of knowledge.

The club envisions to make its members competent to become the leaders of the future with excellence in technical, creative, and intrapersonal skills, through making them learn how to learn, by simulating a workspace like atmosphere inside the lab, and making them go through all challenges, and setbacks they may face in the real world.

FDP on Web Technologies : An Industrial Perspective

 

 Date: 15th December 2018 – 16th December 2018

 

The Department of CSE conducted an FDP on Web Technologies : An Industrial Perspective on 15th and 16th of December, 2018. Sessions were handled on Basic HTML and CSS, Bootstrap framework, PHP, Javascript, JQuery, and JSON. The sessions were attended by 13 external faculty members and some members of MITS faculty. Sessions were handled by Mr. Nikhil Baby from Menerva Softwares (an alumnus of CSE Department at MITS), Mr. Sreeraj R (Royal College of Engineering and Technology), and Ms. Anupama T D (Lead Engineer, QBurst Technologies). The workshop was coordinated by Asst. Professor Bineeth Kuriakose and Asst. Professor Mahalingam P R.

Workshop on Deep Learning for Computer Vision

 

 Date: 9th January 2018 – 13th January 2018

 

The Department of CSE conducted a 5-day workshop on Deep Learning for Computer Vision from 9th to 13th of January 2018. It was attended by 19 external participants and 30 students from MITS. The workshop was co-sponsored by KSCSTE. Sessions were handled by Dr. Venkatesh Babu (IISc Bengaluru), Dr. Deepak Mishra (IIST Thiruvananthapuram), Mr. Praseed Pai (UST Global), Dr. Dilip Thomas (Adjunct Asso. Professor, CSE, MITS), Dr. Resmi N. G (Assistant Professor, CSE, MITS), and Mr. Mahalingam P. R (Assistant Professor, CSE, MITS). The workshop was coordinated by Asst. Professor Bineeth Kuriakose and Asst. Professor Jisha James.

Teaching is the most influential job in the world. Teachers are known to shape the mind of youth and without knowledge no one can exist in this world. Teacher imparts good value in children and turn them into responsible citizens. So, almost every country celebrates Teacher’s Day.Teachers’ Day is a special day for the appreciation of teachers, and may include celebrations to honor them for their special contributions in a particular field area, or the community in general. The students of CSE hoisted a teacher’s day celebration on 5th September 2018.
